Let’s talk Christmas movies, the ones that make you feel cozy, nostalgic, and just right for the season. Some are classics, some are modern, and some aren’t even technically Christmas movies—but who cares? If it feels good, it counts. Here’s my list of must-watch favorites (plus a little side ramble or two).
Jack Frost (1979)
Starting strong with this stop-motion gem. If you haven’t seen it, it’s that vintage Rankin/Bass style that just screams Christmas. It’s whimsical, a little sad, and honestly underrated.
Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town (1970)
Another Rankin/Bass classic. It’s pure nostalgia with a sprinkle of wholesome storytelling. Kris Kringle teaching the Winter Warlock kindness? Still gets me.
The Year Without a Santa Claus (1974)
Okay, but let’s talk about the Heat Miser and Snow Miser. Their songs? Hello? Legendary. “I’m Mister White Christmas, I’m Mister Snow…” (brb, dancing in my seat). You can’t tell me you don’t sing along to those two.
Elf
Will Ferrell running around New York in an elf costume? Never gets old. Buddy’s childlike energy is (a little annoying, but also) peak holiday vibes, and I dare you not to smile when he yells, “Santa! I know him!”
How the Grinch Stole Christmas
Both the classic animated version and Jim Carrey’s Grinch deserve love here. The Grinch grumbling his way to a full heart always feels like the holiday reset we need.
Rise of the Guardians
Not strictly a Christmas movie, but it’s got Jack Frost—who is definitely a winter icon. Also, is it just me, or did anyone else have a tiny crush on Jack Frost as a kid? No shame.
Scooby-Doo
Okay, hear me out—Scooby-Doo isn’t a Christmas movie. But it’s one of those movies that just feels good, you know? It’s like comfort food. Watching the gang solve mysteries while I’m curled up under a blanket? Perfect vibe.
This is my go-to list when I need some cozy movie magic during the holidays. What are your must-watch movies this time of year? Drop a few recommendations—my movie queue could always use a little festive upgrade.
